Verified technique note

Why this build works

A Daiquiri has nowhere to hide imprecise measuring, so this recipe uses a clear 2:¾:½ structure: 2 ounces of white rum, ¾ ounce of fresh lime, and ½ ounce of simple syrup. Rum remains the main flavor, lime supplies a firm but not equal-volume counterpoint, and the smaller syrup measure softens acidity without making the finish heavy. A hard 12-second shake both chills and adds the dilution needed to join those three ingredients. Fine straining into a chilled coupe preserves the clean, ice-free texture of the short drink.

Common failure points

The drink is harsh even though all three measures are correct.
Shake hard for the full 12 seconds so the build receives enough dilution.
The balance changes from one batch to the next.
Measure fresh lime rather than squeezing directly into the shaker.
Measure or substitute

Light rum can replace white rum at the same 2-ounce measure. Demerara syrup can replace simple syrup at ½ ounce, but it will add color and a richer sugar character.
